Bachelor of Studies (BS) in Physics

BS Program Mission Statement:

To produce well-rounded critical thinkers and life-long learner graduates who are prepared to successfully perform in higher study or professional work in physics, education, or related fields.

Program Objectives: Major objectives of the Department of Physics are as follows:

Objective No. 1: To provide a broad, innovative, and quality education to graduate students in viable areas of Physics.

Objective No. 2: To impart quality teaching which ensures that students are able to analyze, model and design realistic problems in the vast areas of fundamental physics as well as in applied physics.

Objective No. 3: To cultivate a strong approach of creative thinking and problem solving skills in graduate students for future education.

Objective No. 4: To enhance and improve the written and oral communication skills of the students.

Entry Requirements: Intermediate or equivalent with physics and mathematics with minimum 45% marks (2nd division), from an accredited institution. Three year Engineering diploma with math and physics. No D-grade in academic career. Entry Test will be conducted by the University with the following breakup:

 Physics:      30 %

 English:      10%

 Mathematics: 30%

 Chemistry or Computer:   30%

Merit will be determined on 20% of SSC, 50% of Intermediate and 30% of Entry Test marks (As per University Policy).

Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.) in Physics

M.Phil. Program Mission Statement:

To provide education and research facilities at an advanced level to pursue a professional scientific career in viable areas of physics.

Program Objectives: Major objectives of the program are as follows:

  1. To provide a solid foundation in physics and research skills needed for further higher studies
  2. To understand and solve emerging scientific problems in physics and to share outcomes with the international community
  3. To prepare the scholars for the research and development (R&D) activities
  4. To provide necessary qualifications for employment in relevant fields
  5. To develop better written and oral communication skills

Entry Requirements: As per HEC policy

Program Duration: 6-16 Semesters

Total Credit Hours: 31

Syllabi and Courses for M. Phil.

M.Phil. Student may opt courses up to total 24 credits relevant to their chosen area of specialization and subject to the course offered by department/availability of the teaching staff and laboratory facilities from the list of courses;

  • 12 Credit Hours courses from each series in two semesters as per rule defined by University/Department of Physics from time to time.
  • 06 Credit Hours are assigned to the thesis work to be done by student under the supervision of supervisor appointed from amongst the faculty members of Physics Department (MUST).
  • One Credit Hour course Seminar; compulsory for every scholar.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics

PhD Program Mission Statement:

To produce motivated and committed PhDs, who are able to do significant and independent research as an obligation to the nation

Program Objectives: Major objectives of the program are as follows:

  1. To provide a solid foundation in physics and research skills
  2. To understand and solve emerging scientific problems in physics and to share outcomes with the community
  3. To prepare the scholars for the research and development (R&D) activities
  4. To provide necessary qualifications for employment in relevant fields
  5. To develop better written and oral communication skills

Entry Requirements: As per HEC policy

Program Duration: 6-16 Semesters

Total Credit Hours: 70

Syllabi and Courses for PhD

PhD Student may opt courses up to total 18 credits relevant to their chosen area of specialization and subject to the course offered by department/availability of the teaching staff and laboratory facilities from the list of courses;

  • Total 18 Credit Hours course work, 9 Credit Hours from each series in two semesters as per rule defined by University/Department of Physics from time to time.
  • One Credit Hour each, two Seminars; compulsory for every scholar.
  • 50 Credit Hours are assigned to the thesis work to be done by student under the supervision of supervisor appointed from amongst the faculty members of Physics Department (MUST).
