Introduction
Media has been considered as fourth pillar of a state since the inception of democratic form of governments around the globe as media is supposed to educate, inform, entertain and guide the masses in right direction. Keeping in view the globally importance of Media Industry, MUST, Mirpur has established AJK’s pioneer Department of Mass Communication (DMC) in 2019. We believe in professional preparation so that students become leaders in mass communication fields besides becoming rational a productive citizen in their general life as well. We are determined to provide dynamic, intellectually challenging and interactive environment for our students.
Mission
DMC has been envisioned as a center of excellence for promoting media and communication studies particularly in AJK and generally nationwide. The department offers an opportunity to combine unique media and communication studies with involvement in joint research projects, engaging prominent media institutions and experts of national and international repute. We are endeavoring to affiliate DMC with internationally acclaimed teaching institutions in order to enhance excellence in learning. We believe that professional training should be well-equipped to face the contemporary challenges. The department aims to prepare students to become not only the professionals but also to be leaders in the field of mass communication. The department offers practice-based education, which is underpinned by professional knowledge. The students are provided opportunities to join in field visits to media organizations and have access to a series of lectures of national and foreign scholars, as well as seminars and workshops to enhance their scholastic and professional skills.
Bridging the Media: Academia & Industry
DMC is keen to apply modern methods of learning and rationale through group discussions, seminars, symposiums, debates and speech competitions to develop and polish the communication skills of the future media practitioners. Similarly eminent electronic and print media practitioners, public relations professionals, advertising experts, media academicians, researchers of media studies, human rights activists and communication experts from NGOs are frequently invited to DMC to deliver thought provoking lectures and share expertise vis-à-vis latest scenarios of various aspects of media & communication development around the globe.
